Mid and East Antrim Borough Council (MEABC) is leading by example and working in partnership with local communities to develop a sustainable borough, safeguarding the future of our economy, society and environmental assets. Our aim is to be a strong, vibrant, safe and inclusive community where people work together to improve the quality of life for all.The Mid and East Antrim Climate and Sustainability Policy has given a commitment that Council will carry out its activities and functions in a manner which avoids potentially negative environmental impact and states that the principles of sustainable development will be fully considered throughout all activities.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is also committed to driving sustainable economic growth by supporting local communities, businesses and agriculture in transitioning to a circular economy and providing opportunities for the development of clean, green technologies in the area.  This commitment is being delivered via a range of strategic projects which contribute to Net Zero targets and the continued development of the green economy, including projects in partnership with industry to support wider industrial decarbonisation of the area.’

Our Climate and Sustainability Action Plan (June 2023) has been developed to ensure the Council meets all legislative requirements set out in our Climate and Sustainability Policy and guides the actions which will help us to achieve a number of key climate targets.

Design team appointed for £24m i4C Innovation and Cleantech Centre in Ballymena - September 2024

The design team for the i4C Innovation and CleanTech Centre at St Patrick’s regeneration site in Ballymena has been appointed, moving the groundbreaking new £24m green energy innovation hub in Ballymena one step closer to reality - and marking Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s commitment to supporting innovation and achieving Net Zero.

The MEANZ Business Programme

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s Net Zero Business Project is called MEANZ Business. It was launched on 5th March 2024 and is a two-year funded project, under the UKRI Fast Followers Programme. The Project involves the employment of a net zero officer to work with local businesses. This person will also work within the Council to accelerate transition to net zero targets by exploring non-technical barriers and implementing supports to address these.
