In October 2019, Council acknowledged ‘the scale of the climate crisis and the impact it will have on people and communities in Northern Ireland’ and resolved to establish an all-party working group on climate change resilience exploring how we can mitigate this crisis and protect our citizens from the existing and future effects of climate breakdown and investigate measures the Council can take to limit its impact on climate change.

We recognise that our activities and services can have positive and negative impacts upon the environment, and that we need to manage them to improve our performance and manage risks. We are committed to protecting the environment by minimising any adverse environmental impact, while creating opportunities for enhancing positive environmental effects to improve the quality of life for people. We aim to inspire others by improving the environmental performance of our operations and continue to promote reduce, reuse and recycle. (Corporate Performance and Improvement Plan 2024-25).
